The [I 011 / topi] is a species of antelope and is commonly mistaken for the larger kongoni. It has distinctive black markings, one between its eyes extending to its mouth, others on the legs and thighs. It is the only antelope that habitually stands on termite mounds. The topi is on the plains but most commonly found on the floodplain of the west where it doesn't have to compete with the wildebeest for vegetation. Its population in the Serengeti-Mara is estimated at 50,000.
